Aftercare advice....
Immediate after-care
The polyurethanes chemicals used in our driveway resins are nonreactive, stable and resistant to most chemicals. As the resistance to chemicals builds over time, care should be taken in the few days after the installation whilst the resin fully cures and hardens, it's important that you don't put the resin surface under any heavy pressure as it will may cause an imprints.
Regular cleaning
Cleaning should be carried two to three times a year with a stiff brush and cold water hose washing. Otherwise like most driveways staining will occur from the detritus that is not cleaned away and lays within the resin surface. If this happens stubborn stains "may" possibly be removed with a typical domestic pressure washer with a fan type attachment which should be cold water sprayed only, no closer than 200mm above the resin bound surface. The lack of regular cleaning of the resin driveway to remove the detritus that washes into the resin driveway will affect the colour of the resin, resulting in an aged and patchy look. Chewing gum should be dealt with immediately with freeze spray and gently scraped off with a suitable scraper.
Brake and clutch fluid
Brake and clutch fluid are extremely corrosive to the polyurethanes chemicals in the resin. In the unlikely event that brake or clutch fluid lands on your driveway, remove it straight away with lots of warm water and a mild detergent such as washing up liquid or car shampoo.
Engine fluid/Oil/Fuel
In order to prevent possible staining, engine fluid that has been spilt on resin surfacing should be removed with a stiff brush and any household detergent such as washing up liquid or car shampoo, and warm water. The detergent should be allowed to sink in for 15 minutes. Stubborn stains may be removed with a typical domestic pressure washer with a fan type attachment which should be cold water sprayed no closer than 200mm above the resin bound surface.
Tyre marks
In order to minimise tyre tread marks, only turn the steering wheel of the vehicle whilst in motion. Tyre marks on the surface can be wiped down with a small amount of white spirit and a household detergent such as washing up liquid or car shampoo. A typical domestic pressure washer with a fan type attachment may be used with cold water and sprayed no closer than 200mm above the resin bound surface.
Uses and heavy objects
Resin bound driveways for pedestrian use and for light vehicle traffic are laid with a minimum depth of 18mm. Driveways, car parks and forecourts are all suitable uses for resin surfaces. Resin bound driveways should be laid at a minimum 20mm depth for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes. Heavy goods vehicles shouldn’t manoeuvre or park on resin bound driveways unless they have been laid at a thickness of at least 20mm. Skips and other heavy objects should not be parked on the surface unless the load is spread with the use of wooden planks. Care should be taken with objects such as car jacks, motorbikes and machinery.
Weed removal
All resin driveways are weed resistant and we always treat ours with a weed inhibitor prior to the installation of the resin aggregate. However lack of maintenance and neglect will cause detritus build up below the resin surface. The lact of regular cleaning of the resin driveway to remove the detritus that washes into the resin driveway will affect the colour of the resin, resulting in an aged and patchy look. Seeds dispersal from rain, wind and animals will take root in the detritus and damage the surface. As such without regular maintenance resin cannot be guaranteed to be weed free. In the event that weeds do start to grow due to lack of maintenance, they should be pulled out by hand, ensuring the root is pulled out with the weed. Where the weeds are deep rooted, they can be killed off with mild weed killer only, otherwise damage will be done to the resin surface. So if you are using a strong weed killer, make sure to water it down significantly. Strong weed killers that aren’t watered down may discolour the surface of your resin surface. If weeds tend to congregate along the edges of your driveway we recommend two or three weed treatments per year.
Moss and Algae
Damp and shaded areas can cause moss and algae to take hold. To tackle this, treat the affected area with a herbicide or bleach solution. We recommend two or three weed treatments per year and remember to rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water. Always use the herbicide or bleach according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
Ice and slippages
Our resin bound surface all include a lifetime anti slippage treatment to reduce the chance of slippages, but it's still wise to take precautions. White rock salt can be purchased and used on the surface of the resin to remove ice and frost.
